Hawaiian Haystacks
Written by admin on April 11, 2008 – 6:45 pm -This is the perfect meal to make when you just do not want to spend time cooking. This is one of my all-time favorite quick, EASY and CHEAP recipes! It’s just so unbelievably easy that ANYONE can do it. I got this “recipe” if that’s what you want to call it, from my wonderful sister-in-law. It’s one of those recipes similar to a potato bar or build your own pizzas where you just have all the ingredients ready and everyone can build their own according to their preferences (which I think that concept is just brilliant because then you never have to stress about if someone won’t like dinner…and if they can’t find something out of all of this that they like, then show them where the peanut butter and jelly are located).
So, like I said, there isn’t an actual recipe, but here are the usual ingredients:
- cooked white and/or brown rice
- cooked cubed chicken
- tomatoes, chopped
- green onions, chopped
- canned pineapple chunks, drained
- shredded cheese (cheddar is good)
- shredded coconut
- oriental noodles (those really crunchy ones, sometimes called chow mein noodles)
- brown gravy and/or cream of mushroom soup (use about half the milk or water called for to make soup)…I really prefer the brown gravy with this, but if you’re feeding a lot of people with this then do both!
Just make sure everything that needs to be heated is heated (rice, chicken, gravy, cream of mushroom soup), put everything in separate bowls & let your family or guests do their thing!
